I take 500mg of magnesium oxide before bed. It does help improve sleep but it is not like like a sleeping pill that nockes you out.

I take slightly over 205 mg of mag. citrate in hot water before bed. I agree it is not like a sleeping pill, but does seem to promote relaxation and help with sleep.Jodi

I have noticed that when I take magnesium at night I wake up earlier in the morning, no matter what time I go to bed at night. I also have migraines and taking magnesium has helped those.

Magnesium oxide is just about inert. Other compounds are absorbed better. Citrate and taurate are good ones.

Marchio, I have the same problem.Tomzed, you can buy it anywhere they sell vitamins. They say the -ate forms (magnesium glycinate/malate/etc) absorb better than mg oxide.
